by Rebecca Greene Udden
Main Street Theater brings one of Shakespeare's masterpieces to life in this compelling, contemporary version of The Merchant of Venice. Locked away within a chest is Portia's picture - and the suitor who can choose the right chest gains Portia as his bride. To finance his wooing of Portia, Bassanio must borrow money - and when the loan cannot be repaid, Shylock seeks his revenge on those who have scorned him. Part of the National Endowment for the Arts Shakespeare for a New Generation initiative, this touring version of The Merchant of Venice will capture the attention of young adults with the "trial of the century."
